"Rivals"

What to choose? Who is right? Who is wrong? Which is the correct path to follow? Is it the heart or the mind? Full of ‘what if’s’ and cannot decide? Why our feelings and our thoughts do not unite? Our thoughts are against our desires, and our desires are against our thoughts. What will happen if I obey my mind? What will happen if I listen to my heart? Is there a positive outcome or it will just ruin everything? Why is it always like that? They contradict each other in many ways. Why they do not reconcile instead? So every decision we make will not be a burden.

Two opposing forces will never get together. Let us recall the functions of the two most important parts of the human body. The heart is responsible for pumping blood all over our body, while the brain controls the body movements, emotions, consciousness, cognitive thinking and also encodes stimuli and such. We also know that heart symbolizes love, emotions, and desires, while the brain symbolizes practicality, rational thinking and needs.

Heart over mind or vice versa is a common issue when it comes to making decisions. Most of the time, the things that you want will completely contradict what you must really do, being practical or being happy. Actually, it is somehow dependent on the perception of an individual, everyone strives for success, and that success will vary from one person to another. Is success having a better future by means of wealth or having a less privileged life but happy and satisfied? Well, it is up to each one of us. We are the ones who can command ourselves on what path we will take, but it is a responsibility to foresee what awaits us ahead.

As for my opinion, “Oops!” is better that “What if?” Why? Just like in the saying, “Experience is the best teacher.” A person develops through experiences. Even though we slip up, at least we follow what our heart really desires and the most important thing is, we try and we learn something from it. I did not mean that we should always follow our heart without consulting the mind. What I really want to say is as long as the thing you really want will improve yourself or for the sake of people around you, then go for it, as long as it will not ruin and destroy your life, and always keep in mind that do not hurt other people in whatever you do. Do the things that will keep you happy and contented, something that money cannot buy.

  2. Point made. Everything still depends on the situation and it's easier to just state a word without basis from our very own experience. Good job Jenny.

  3. When the mind stays in the Heart, the source of all thoughts will go, and the Self which ever exists will shine.

  4. If your head tells you one thing, and your heart tells you another, before you do anything decide first whether you have a better head or a better heart.
